SALINAS VALLEY — The King City Mustangs are 6-0 in the Cypress Division, winning on the road by 15-1 against host Seaside, and completing the series with the Spartans with a 10-0 shutout win by Joey Pina.
JC Navarro earned the road game, allowing just three hits and striking out eight Seaside batters. Francisco Lopez led King City with two hits and three RBIs, and Mateo Blair added two hits and one RBI.
In the home game with Seaside, Pina helped himself with two hits and four RBIs at the plate and had nine strikeouts.
The Mustangs played against Alisal in Salinas on Tuesday for their only game of the week.
The Soledad Aztecs baseball team split a home and away series last week with the Monterey Toreadores.
In the first game at home, Soledad pitcher Vidal Perez led his team to a 3-1 victory. Perez struck out a game-high 15 batters in his 6.1 innings of work.
Teammate Ethan Sanchez earned the save as he pitched the last inning to secure the win for Perez.
Soledad’s Daniel Garcia collected two hits and Daniel Valenzuela contributed with one hit and two runs batted in.
In the second game, the Toreadores’ Johnny Money held the Aztecs in check as he threw a four-hitter to claim the 3-1 victory for Monterey. Money struck out seven batters and did not allow a walk.
Ethan Sanchez took the loss on mound as he gave up three runs while striking out 10 batters. Anakin Tavarez hit a double and an RBI for Soledad, and Sanchez matched with a double of his own.
Soledad is now 2-6 in the Gabilan Division of the Pacific Coast Athletic League, with a 5-9 overall record. The Aztecs played at Hollister on Monday, traveled to Salinas on Tuesday for a game with the Palma Chieftains, and will host Palma on Thursday afternoon.
In the Mission Division, the Greenfield Bruins suffered a 4-0 setback to the host Rancho San Juan Trailblazers. Cecil Short threw a complete game no-hitter and finished with 11 strikeouts for the Trailblazers.
Two days later in Greenfield, the Bruins made the most of two hits and defeated the Trailblazers 4-3 to improve to 3-4 in divisional play and 10-4 overall. Isaac Ramos finished with two RBIs and Osvaldo Gaeta hit the two Greenfield hits and added an RBI.
The Bruins are not scheduled for another game until April 23 at home against the Everett Alvarez Eagles in the first game of a home and away series.
Gonzales High defeated Pajaro Valley on the road by a 17-2 scored and lost 11-2 to the North Salinas Vikings.
The Spartans played at Marina on Tuesday and will host the Mariners on Thursday afternoon.
