KING CITY — California Water Service (Cal Water) is urging residents to be vigilant after reports of scammers targeting customers of multiple utilities emerged, in which scammers are trying to obtain access to customers’ homes.
In the most recent case affecting Cal Water customers, scammers called claiming to be Cal Water employees and needing to visit the residents’ homes to test the water for iron. Similar scams are targeting customers of city public works departments and electric utilities.
“Protecting our customers’ health and safety is our top priority,” said Local Manager Marc Bloom. “If residents are ever unsure about a call or contact from someone claiming to be a Cal Water employee, we urge them to hang up and call our Customer Center for verification.”

Residents should be aware that scammers may target them over the phone, via email or in person and try to obtain credit card information, arrange for fraudulent payments to be made or gain access to a property. Cal Water serves about 13,300 people through 2,500 service connections in King City. The utility has provided water service in the area since 1962.
