KING CITY — Last week was a challenge for the King City Lady Mustangs as the fell to two strong programs in Seaside and Templeton to fall to 1-2 in non-league play. With four returning varsity players King City is working on improving their play as the start of league approaches.
King City last on the road to Seaside, 53-27 and lost at home to Templeton by a 51-36 tally. Head coach Frank Padilla praised his team for their efforts against the Spartans.
“The first half was pretty good and we were only down by eight points with a minute or so to play,” said Coach Padilla. “Seaside then used a four point swing to take a 12 point lead into halftime. We came out really flat in the second half and scored only 13 points in the second half. Seaside is a good team and they are the defending champion in their league. Playing a solid team like Seaside is a good gauge on how we can improve.”
Delaney Carroll led King City in scoring with eight points and blocked five shots. Mikayla Davis added seven points.
Last Thursday against Templeton the Lady Mustangs trailed 30-19 at the half as they struggled against the full court press. Carroll led King City with 15 points and finished with eight rebounds, two blocked shots, and four steals.
Megan Flores just missed a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds and added one blocked shot and one steal.
King City will play again at home on Dec. 11 against the visiting Salinas High Cowboys.
