SALINAS VALLEY — Soledad and King City won home games but lost on the road as play continues in the Mission softball division.
Soledad (2-6, 7-9-1 overall) defeated the Everett Alvarez Eagles last Tuesday at home, then were shut out 10-0 at Alisal two nights later. Delylah Ocampo had four hits against the Eagles and Sophia Gonzalez was credited with two runs batted in.
King City beat visiting Greenfield, 10-0, in a non-divisional game last Tuesday and lost to the North Salinas Vikings by an 8-0 score. Lucia Pinedo had eight strikeouts and earned the pitching victory.
The Mustangs are 3-5 in the Mission Division and 10-9 overall. Alizah Carrillo earned the win over Greenfield and had seven strikeouts and allowed one walk.
“It was good to beat Greenfield at home,” said King City head coach Artie Carrillo. “We were able to collect some hits. The North Salinas game was just 1-0 in the first couple of innings, then we gave up runs in the middle of the game and couldn’t recover.”
Contributing hits for King City in the Greenfield game were: Carrillo (two hits, including a triple) and Ally Chavez (double). Also adding hits were Avery Munoz, Brooke King, Crystal Paramo and Isa Lopez.
Soledad had a home game Tuesday against North Salinas, and will host the Carmel Padres on Thursday on the Aztec playing field. King City played Everett Alvarez on Tuesday and will host the Alisal Trojans on Thursday afternoon. Greenfield hosted North County on Monday and will play at Gonzales on Wednesday before hosting the Rancho San Juan Trailblazers on Friday.
Gonzales (0-7 in the Cypress, 0-17 overall) dropped two contests last week. The Spartans lost in the forfeit to Paso Robles, and were beaten 9-3 at North Monterey County last Wednesday afternoon.
Mariana Camarena, Jaelyn Diaz, Alitzel Mauro and Giselle Hernandez had base hits. Hanna Camarena, Kaya Correa and Hernandez has RBIs.
The Spartans hosted Rancho San Juan on Monday and will host Greenfield on Wednesday. They will complete the week with an away game against Monte Vista Christian on Friday.
