SALINAS VALLEY — Soledad High shooting guard Pedro Morales was chosen as the Most Valuable Player of the Pacific Coast Athletic League (PCAL) Cypress Division in boys basketball.
Morales was first-team All-League, along with teammate Calvin DeShazo. The pair led the Aztecs to the Cypress Division Championship.
Soledad head coach Nick Twitchell praised Morales for leadership and offensive prowess on the court.
“Pedro (Morales) was our leader in many ways this year,” Twitchell said. “He helped develop our culture and identity as a team and program. His dedication to the game and improvement became the standard for everyone. His knowledge of where he and teammates were supposed to be kept us organized.”
Morales averaged over 24 points a game in league play. In the game against North Salinas, he made 10 three-pointers and scored 34 points — one of the most clutch games in Soledad boys basketball history.
DeShazo grabbed 165 rebounds this season, along with 8.22 points per game, and was a leader on the Aztecs in field goal percentage and free throws.
