KING CITY — Interviews from 2021 with Rudy and Joanne Banuelos, long-time residents of King City, are now available on the YouTube channel for the San Antonio Valley Historical Association.
The interviews were conducted in August and September 2021, just before the Banueloses moved to the Sacramento area. Karen Jernigan conducted the interviews and John Jernigan recorded them.
“The interviews tell the stories and memories of their lives,” said Karen Jernigan.
Rudy Banuelos worked many years for the U.S. Postal Service. A plaque honoring him was recently dedicated in May and installed at the King City Post Office. He died Nov. 1, 2021.
Joanne Banuelos came to King City as a teenager and worked many years at Wells Fargo Bank. In her retirement years, she was a columnist for the King City Rustler newspaper, writing a column called “Joanne’s Got It.”
To access the interviews, go to the YouTube website and search for the San Antonio Valley Historical Association (SAVHA). The Banuelos interviews will appear on the SAVHA channel, where other historic interviews can also be found, including the recently released interview with Sonia Chapa.
Chapa is one of the founding members of Sol Treasures, a cultural and enrichment center in King City. Her interview tells the story of the founding of Sol Treasures, which just celebrated its 15th anniversary with a fundraising event and celebration on Sept. 30 at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds.
