SALINAS VALLEY — The defending Pacific Coast Athletic League (PCAL) Mission Division football champion King City Mustangs were on the field last Friday preparing for the upcoming season.
This Friday, the Mustangs will conduct the annual Blue and White scrimmage at War Memorial Stadium. King City will then participate in the Rancho San Juan Jamboree in Salinas on Aug. 21, followed by a home game at War Memorial Stadium on Aug. 27 against the Greenfield Bruins.
Gonzales Spartans held a practice last Saturday on the practice fields at Dick Force Stadium for the varsity and junior varsity teams. The Spartans will start the pre-season by participating in a scrimmage at Alisal High School on Aug. 21.
Then, on Aug. 28, Gonzales will begin the non-league schedule against host Scotts Valley. The Spartans are in the Santa Lucia Division of the PCAL.
Soledad Aztecs, a member of the PCAL’s Mission South Division along with King City, will be in action on Aug. 21 at the South County Jamboree in Greenfield.
The Aztecs will then travel to San Benito County on Aug. 28 for a game with the Hollister Haybalers. Soledad’s first home game is Sept. 4 against North Salinas.
Greenfield Bruins are a member of the PCAL’s Santa Lucia Division. The Bruins start the season off at the South County Jamboree on Aug. 21, followed by a rivalry game at King City on Aug. 27.
