KING CITY — King City High School volleyball players and their coaches and families gathered last week for a banquet and awards night.

Players from the Lady Mustang and Bronco teams were recognized for their hard work during the 2025 season.

“We were able to wrap up the season with a wonderful banquet and celebrated the successes of both the JV and varsity teams,” said King City head coach Christine Luna. “It was a great night to recognize the players that stood out on each team. Both teams had good seasons competing in the Gabilan Division for the third year.”

Presented with special team awards were the following varsity players: Alizah Carrillo (Top Defensive Player); Avery Munoz (Top Offensive Player and Varsity Scholar-Athlete); Stephanie Velasquez (Offensive Coordinator); Xienna Novoa (Lady Mustang Award); and Hollyn Hearne (Most Valuable Player).

Gillian Ewart is King City’s Richard Chamberlin All-Sportsmanship selection, and the King City team received the Elgie Bellizio Sportsmanship Team Award.

Hearne was a first-team All-League selection and Novoa and Velasquez were selected second-team All-League. Both Hearne and Novoa were four-year varsity players.

Luna described Velasquez as a setter that could get the ball to her players from anywhere on the court.

“She (Velasquez) has some of the most consistent hands to lead our offense,” Luna said. “In the second half of league, our hitters were hitting at a high percentage off of her and she ended the season setting all rotations. Many coaches complemented how smooth her hands were and called them ‘butter’ hands. No matter where she was on the court, the ball came out of her hands clean to our hitters and put them in the best position to score a point. All three of them (Velasquez, Novoa and Hearne) brought our competitiveness up in the gym every day pushing and leading our younger players. They all wanted to win and it showed every day.”

Assisting Luna this season were former players Jalen Mendez and Ivy Hearne. Head coach for the Bronco team was Lauren Page, with assistance by Stefanie King.

Page and King presented awards to Noemi Casimiro (Volleyball Scholar-Athlete); Heidi Medina (Offensive Player of the Year); Monzerratt Camacho (Defensive Player of the Year); Jocelyn Jacquez (Most Valuable Player); and Milley Paramo (Lady Bronco Award).

“Our seniors were recognized for their contributions over the years to our program and they will missed,” Luna said. “We are looking forward to starting our beach volleyball program in the spring and looking forward to next fall. Go Mustangs!”
