SALINAS VALLEY — Divisional track and field champions will be crowned this Friday at Andy Harin Stadium in Hollister and Dick Force Stadium in Gonzales.
The King City boys will enter the Gabilan Division finals after defeating Hollister last Wednesday at home. King City, Palma and Hollister are all tied with 4-1 dual meet records. Field events at Hollister will start at 4 p.m. with track events at 5 p.m.
The Gonzales boys finished the dual meet season with a 9-0 record as they defeated South Monterey County foes Greenfield and Soledad last Thursday in Greenfield. The Bruins have a 8-1 dual meet record and Soledad is 6-3. Field events at Gonzales will start at 4:30 p.m. with track events at 5 p.m.
The Greenfield girls are also chasing a title as they defeated Soledad and Gonzales to finish the dual meet season at 9-0. Divisional champions will be determined by the dual meet record worth one point per victory and two points for every win at the championship finals.
Against Hollister, the Mustangs had first-place wins by Alex Macias (100, triple jump, long jump); Antonio Rodriguez (pole vault); Armando Villasenor (discus); Izaiah Valencia (300 hurdles); and Ivan Diaz (1600, 3200). The boys defeated Hollister 73-62.
The Lady Mustangs lost to the Balers by a 97-35 score. Earning first-place wins were: Rosa Pacheco (1600); Jolea Celaya (100 and 300 hurdles); and Melissa Iglesias (pole vault).
At Greenfield, the following boys from Gonzales, Greenfield and Soledad earned first-place wins: Gonzales – Jordan Askew (400); Aaron Hernandez (110 hurdles); Aiden Borongan (high jump); John Carlo Magana (pole vault); Josiah Guerrero (long jump); and Joshua Mariscal (triple jump); Greenfield – Jose Chavez (300 hurdles); and Soledad — Ricardo Flores (shot put, discus).
Greenfield girls event winners were: Alexeen Sanchez (200); Izoida Ramirez (1600); Marleene Hernandez (300 hurdles); Alexeen Sanchez, Amanda Castro, Izoida Ramirez and Verenice Villa (4 x 400); Lizbeth Perez-Bello (shotput); and Arlene Cruz (high jump, long jump, triple jump). Soledad girls event winners were: Karissa Zepeda (100, 400); and Alejandra Zepeda, Brienna Phillips, Isabella Krasta and Justina Botello (4 x 100 relay). Liz Baguio of Gonzales won the discus event.
