SALINAS VALLEY — Five boys and five girls from South Monterey County have qualified for the Central Coast Section Track and Field Semifinals that will be contested this Saturday at Gilroy High School.

The athletes qualified for the CCS meet after finishing in the top six at last Friday’s Pacific Coast Athletic League Master Meet that was held at Monte Vista Christian High School in Watsonville.

Boys qualifying from King City and their place and marks were: Carson Tidwell (6th, 100 meters, 11.44); John Angel Ruelas (3rd, 400 meters, 51.3); Izaiah Valencia (4th, 300 hurdles, 43.1); and Armando Villasenor (5th, discus, 129-3). Soledad will be represented at CCS by Ricardo Flores (6th, shot put, 42.3).

Greenfield had three girls qualify for CCS, they were: Izoida Ramirez (3rd, 3200 meters, 11:40); Arlene Cruz (6th, high jump, 4-8, and 6th, triple jump, 32-1). Also qualifying were Jolea Celaya of King City (2nd, 300 hurdles, 47.46) and Liz Baguio of Gonzales (4th, shot put, 30-4).

The running and field events will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The top eight in each event will compete at the CCS finals that take place in Gilroy on Saturday, May 23, beginning with field events at 3 p.m.
