KING CITY — King City Lady Mustangs track and field team will have three individual girls and two relay teams compete at this Saturday’s Central Coast Section semifinals in Gilroy.
During the Masters Meet at Pacific Grove last Friday, Mariana Alcarez placed third in the discus with a best of 102-01 to lead the King City team. Rose Ruelas ran the 400 meters in 1:00.86 to place fourth in her specialty, and Alexa Flores placed seventh in the 3200 in a time of 12:16.
The Lady Mustangs also qualified their 4×100 relay team with a sixth-place finish in 51.54. Team members were Jacqueline Orellano, Rose Ruelas, Irie Velasquez and Zamantha Fletes.
The girls’ 4×400 relay team placed third in a time of 4:15.92. Team members included Fletes, Ruelas, Eva Vicencio and Jolea Celaya.
Representing the Mustang boys will be Angel Romero, who placed sixth in the shot put with a best of 43-7.
Greenfield High’s Latai Matalua placed fifth in the girls’ shot put with a best of 31-5 to qualify to the semifinals.
Gonzales High will have Alen Valdez race in the boys’ 110 hurdles after placing sixth with a best of 17.1.
The CCS semifinals will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, with the field events and the running events scheduled to start at 11 a.m. The finals will be contested on Saturday, May 18, at Gilroy.
