SOUTH COUNTY — Alliance on Aging is looking for a few South County residents to volunteer for the 2018 Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) program, which offers no-cost tax preparation services for seniors in Monterey County.

According to Sarah Guzman, TCE program coordinator for Alliance on Aging, about four to six volunteers are needed for South County to help the program open additional sites in the area. Currently there is only one volunteer offering services at the Greenfield Library on Thursdays during the tax season.

“There is a need for us in King City, Soledad and Gonzales, but right now we’re only in Greenfield one day a week,” Guzman said.

Each year the Alliance partners with the IRS and the California Franchise Tax Board to provide free assistance to hundreds of Monterey County residents age 60 and older in the preparation of their federal and state income tax returns. Guzman said many of those seniors are from South County.

This year the program will offer tax preparation beginning Feb. 1 through April 17.

South County residents who have experience in preparing tax returns and would like to volunteer are encouraged to apply before Jan. 31 so they can receive training.
