Stephen M. Nolte, 73 of King City passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2017. He was born January 12, 1944 in Waseca, Minnesota.
He was a long-time employee of the United States Postal Service, where he was a Letter Carrier for the south side of King City for over 40 years. It’s believed he walked his route the equivalent of over four times around the world.
Steve moved with his parents and brothers from Minnesota in 1957 and attended junior high at San Lorenzo School in King City. He was a graduate of King City High School in 1962. He was also a graduate of Hartnell College in 1964, where he met his wife, Nancy. After Hartnell, he began working a full-time job at the Post Office. He and Nancy were married in January of 1966.
Steve was drafted in 1967 during the Vietnam War. He served two years in Germany, working as an intelligence and communications specialist and achieving the rank of E4. After serving honorably, he returned to King City to resume his job at the Post Office and to start his family.
He volunteered as head coach of the King City Swim Club and he served as a member of the King City Parks and Recreation Commission for many years. He also volunteered at local KCHS track meets.
Steve was an avid reader and enjoyed reading historical non-fiction, fantasy, and science fiction. He loved airplanes and cars and was a long-time reader of Motor Trend and Car & Driver magazines. He enjoyed listening to 60’s and 70’s rock on his Marantz stereo with his brother Jim. He loved watching USC football and UCLA and Lakers basketball. He was also a long-time Forty Niner’s fan and loved watching games with his sons and grandson. He also enjoyed attending Cal and UCSB sporting events, where his sons Mark and Derek attended college, respectively. He was a loyal KCHS Mustang and enjoyed attending boys and girls Mustang sporting events. He was very proud to see his son Ty take the field as a member of the Mustangs football team.
Steve was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where he was confirmed as a young man and served as church President.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Nolte; sons, Mark Nolte (Marisela Villasenor) of Dublin; Derek Nolte (Judy Peng) of Santa Clara; Tyson Nolte of King City; grandson, Angel Nolte of Dublin; brother; Jim Nolte of Salinas. He is preceded in death by his brother Thomas; father Floyd and mother Beatrice.
