SOUTH COUNTY — The track and field season ended at the Central Coast Section finals for Pablo Villasenor of Gonzales, Noora Hautamaki of Soledad, and Dylan Oliveros of King City. The trio performed at close to their personal bests against the best track and field athletes in the section.
Villasenor finished in seventh place in the shot put at 48-1/4, just one spot away from earning a section medal that were presented to the top six finishers. Villasenor, a junior, threw a best of 50-5 at the semifinals to earn entry in the finals.
“Pablo is progressing and will come back even stronger next year,” said Soledad head coach Margie Daniels. “Pablo did a good job representing South County.”
Hautamaki competed in the triple jump, long jump, and the shot put. The foreign exchange student from Finland earned a fifth place medal in the triple jump with a best of 37-7. Hautamaki placed seventh in the long jump with a best of 17-7 and a placed eighth in the shot put with a best of 36-0.
“(Hautamaki) gave it everything she had,” said Soledad head coach Jeremy Hoeflinger. “She performed at her personal records and just came up short to make it to State.”
Oliveros placed ninth in the triple jump with a mark of 42-3. Oliveros is a junior jumper for the Mustangs.
“I was pleased that Dylan came up with a great jump,” said King City jumps coach Evan Petrovic. “We look forward to seeing him perform next year.”
