Softball | Banquet honors Lady Mustangs

KING CITY — King City High School softball team gathered for an awards night and banquet last Thursday at the school cafeteria.

Players, coaches and parents celebrated the successful 10-6 record last spring that ended in the semifinals of the Central Coast Section playoffs.

Head Coach Artie Carrillo and his staff of Jesse Soto, Ariel Carrillo, Mikayla Davis and Brit Davis presented team certificates, followed by special awards to the Lady Mustang players on Aug. 12.

Team awards were presented to the following players: Best Offensive Player, Skyla Reyes; Best Defensive Player, Gisela Contreras; Pitcher of the Year, Malaya Carrillo; Most Valuable Player, Lisa Villanueva; Coaches Award, Sage Flores; and Team Captain Award, Alejandra Tejeda.

“It was a season that KCHS and these girls will never forget, and nobody can take it away from them,” said Coach Carrillo. “We are all extremely proud of these girls and their hard work and dedication. We went further than anyone thought we would with making it to the CCS semifinals. I couldn’t be prouder as a coach and I know these girls are happy to compete again for it. I’m looking forward to what next season holds for us.”
