SALINAS VALLEY — After nearly three weeks off, South Monterey County soccer teams will be back in action this week. The four boys’ and girls’ teams opened divisional play on Monday.
BOYS’ SOCCER
The Gonzales boys’ team finished the preseason with a 4-2-2 record and began the Cypress Division in Castroville against North Monterey County on Monday, after press deadlines. The Spartans will host Monte Vista Christian on Wednesday night and Ceiba on Friday. Both games will be contested at Rabobank Stadium in Salinas.
Soledad was 0-4-1 in the preseason and plays Wednesday at Carmel.
Greenfield had the best preseason mark from the local boys’ teams at 5-0-2 and began the week on Monday by hosting Hollister. The Bruins are in the Gabilan Division and play Wednesday at Everett Alvarez in Salinas.
King City is a member of the Mission Division and played Tuesday at Watsonville.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
The Soledad girls’ soccer team is part of the Gabilan Division and had a 7-1 record in the preseason. The Aztecs will play Thursday at Hollister.
Gonzales, Greenfield and King City are in the Cypress Division.
The Spartans (1-5) are at Seaside on Wednesday night and travel to Pebble Beach to play Robert Louis Stevenson on Friday. The Bruins (1-2) played at King City on Monday, host the Palma Chieftains on Wednesday, and host Seaside on Friday. The Mustangs (3-3) play at Santa Catalina on Wednesday and will have a varsity-game-only contest on Friday at Pacific Grove.
