SALINAS VALLEY — With the end of the soccer season, it’s time to see which high school boys and girls from South Monterey County are taking back awards and receiving all-league honors.

King City Mustangs

After winning the Northern California Championship last season, the King City Mustangs varsity boys’ soccer team took a step back this year in the Mission Division.

Esteban Acosta was the only Mustang player to make the Mission Division all-league first team, while Jesus Montoya was placed on the all-league second team.

For the Lady Mustangs, Iran Ibarra made the Cypress Division all-league first team and Kayla Andrade was named to the all-league second team.

Greenfield Bruins

This year the Greenfield Bruins varsity boys’ soccer team won the Mission Division and were one of the more dominant teams in the area. The Bruins earned not only the league’s Offensive Player of the Year (Hector Garcia), but also Defensive Player of the Year (Anthony Zavala).

Making the Mission Division all-league first team are: Armando Hernandez, Jesus Arroyo, Hector Garcia and Anthony Zavala. All-league second team are: Sebastian Hernandez, Gio Hernandez and Ismael Garcia.

Last season the Lady Bruins did not win one match. This season, however, they were able to win 10 matches and finish third in the Santa Lucia Division.

Yaquelin Patricio was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year.

Making the Santa Lucia Division all-league first team are: Abby Hostetter, Yaquelin Patricio and Aundrea Sanchez. All-league second team are: Lesly Ibarra and Marlen Zamarripa.

Gonzales Spartans

Last season the Gonzales Spartans varsity boys’ soccer team only won one league game, but this year they followed it up by winning seven league games in the Cypress Division.

Making the Cypress Division all-league first team are: Jorge Uribe and Ulisses Mancillas. All-league second team are: Jose Camacho and Omar Gonzalez.

When looking at this season to see which teams improved the most, the Lady Spartans would be near the top of that list.

Making the Santa Lucia Division all-league first team are: Emily Ochoa, Samantha Oliva and Alessandra Tejeda. All-league second team are: Valerie Oliva, Jacqueline Estrada and Janelle Garcia.

Soledad Aztecs

For the second straight year, the Soledad Aztecs varsity boys’ soccer team — who arguably play in the hardest league, the Gabilan Division — missed out on the playoffs.

Elias Arreola was the only Aztec player to make the Gabilan Division all-league first team, while Diego Guillen was placed on the all-league second team.

During the season, the Lady Aztecs didn’t seem to have magic from a year ago, but during the playoffs, they were able to find it as they went to the CCS finals. For the second straight year, Sophia Martel was able to win another Most Valuable Player award.

Martel and Larissa Rodriguez made the Mission Division all-league first team, and teammates Giselle Zepeda and Clarissa Mojica were named to the all-league second team.
