RESTAURANT SPACE

MONTEREY COUNTY — Supervisors from Monterey County have advocated for restaurants in the county to be allowed to open to 25% indoor capacity while in the purple tier, which the county is currently classified within. The next tier, red, would allow for more easing of restrictions, and supervisors urged the state to allow 50% indoor capacity at that point. The supervisors drafted a letter on Sept. 24 calling for the shift after the devastating impacts of both Covid-19 shutdowns and the wildfires on the area’s service economy.

COVID TESTS

GREENFIELD — Some walk-in Covid-19 tests are available at Greenfield Library, open Tuesday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. While the county has said that is an option, they recommend scheduling an appointment at lhi.care/covidtesting. Other pop-up testing sites recently happened around the county, but the Greenfield site is the steady testing area located in South Monterey County.

YOUTH COUNCIL

GREENFIELD — A youth council is in the works, as reported by Greenfield High School Principal John McKenzie during the Sept. 23 board meeting for South Monterey County Joint Union High School District. He explained he recently met with Greenfield city officials, including City Manager Paul Wood, and they discussed options and opportunities for Bruin students. Their discussion led to the idea of a student leadership group connected with the Greenfield City Council, in order to provide youth with leadership opportunities both at and outside of school.
