PHOTO CONTEST

MONTEREY COUNTY — Monterey County Free Libraries has a “What are you thankful for?” photo contest ending Nov. 30. Participants can share a post on the library’s Facebook or Instagram page and use the hashtag #emcfl when they post, saying what they’re thankful for, along with the photo. Also, the library system announced it continued to do meal distributions at select branches. The summer distributions totaled 24,760 meals and 12,373 activity bags.


CENTENNIAL PLANS

SOLEDAD — Soledad will turn 100 years old on March 9, 2021, and planning is already underway for the centennial celebration. A Zoom planning meeting is scheduled for Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. to put together the ideas of interested individuals or groups. For those unable to attend virtually, the city is making arrangements to view the meeting at city hall. BLANKET DRIVE

SALINAS VALLEY — Monterey County Office of Education’s Migrant Education is hosting a Winter Blanket Drive, which began last week and is ongoing until Dec. 18. Blankets will be distributed to migrant families in need within local school districts.
