FARES RETURN TO MST

MONTEREY COUNTY — Monterey-Salinas Transit will reinstate fare collection throughout its bus system beginning Aug. 1. Passengers will once again pay at the front door of buses by placing their fare in the farebox. MST had gone fare-free on March 18 as part of its safety efforts to protect passengers and drivers, reducing the contact both had to make with the fare interface. For more information, visit www.mst.org.

SALINAS VALLEY — Salinas Valley Recycles will allow free disposal of used car and small truck tires with or without rims at its three locations: Jolon Road Transfer Station at 52654 Jolon Road in King City, Johnson Canyon Landfill at 31400 Johnson Canyon Road in Gonzales, and Sun Street Transfer Station at 139 Sun St. in Salinas. Tires will be taken, with a limit of nine per trip, from Aug. 1 through Aug. 31, then Oct. 1 through Oct. 31. For more information, visit www.SalinasValleyRecycles.org or call 831-775-3000.

INCREASED ENFORCEMENT

GREENFIELD — New enforcement efforts at the Green Bridge over the Arroyo Seco River began July 25, as river access below the bridge is not public property. The County of Monterey announced increased enforcement will be in effect, along with an increase of parking fines from $25 to a new minimum of $250. According to the county, “The threats of life, safety, environment and our community have been recognized and will be addressed.”
