COOLING STATIONS

SALINAS VALLEY — City of Greenfield is offering a cooling station for residents to escape from the excessive heat this weekend. The station will be available starting today, Aug. 14, through Wednesday, Aug. 19, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Greenfield Civic Center, 599 El Camino Real. Visitors are asked to wear a mask and practice social distancing. A cooling center will also be open today from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Fairview Middle School, 560 Fifth St. in Gonzales. Temperature checks at the door and masks are required.

STUDENT MEAL KITS

KING CITY — School began at King City High School on Aug. 10, the same time KCHS Food Services began providing meal kits to all students free of charge. Students are being provided five-day meal kits, which include five breakfasts and five lunches, for a total of 10 weekly meals. Food services will have a drive-through and walk-up meal service in the district parking lot on Broadway Street, available for pick-up Mondays and Wednesdays from 3 to 5 p.m. Students or their parents may pick up meal kits.

BACKPACK GIVEAWAY

SOLEDAD — Little Free Library in Soledad is hosting its fourth annual backpack giveaway. This year’s program follows social distancing, where backpacks are handed out without youth selecting them, and come pre-filled with supplies. To participate, youth pick up a blank book report form from the Little Free Library location on Walker Drive and then complete their report.
