LIBRARY CLOSURE

KING CITY — King City Library will be closed this week for re-carpeting. Monterey County Free Libraries’ Bookmobile and Pop-Up Library will be available across the street at the future site of the local history center on North Vanderhurst Avenue, each day through Saturday, Oct. 1, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.


STEINBECK CONFERENCE

SALINAS — National Steinbeck Center will host an academic conference on Thursday, Sept. 29, to share various perspectives and research analyzing John Steinbeck’s “East of Eden” novel. The conference, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., will feature short lectures and panel discussions from literary scholars and graduate students. The panels will cover the relation of Steinbeck’s work to the 21st century, agriculture and the legacy of “East of Eden.” Register at steinbeck.org to attend either virtually or in person at the Center, 1 Main St., in Salinas.


REC CELEBRATION

SOLEDAD — Soledad-Mission Recreation District will celebrate 60 years of its inception on Saturday, Oct. 1, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Soledad Pool, 570 Walker Drive, in Soledad. The community celebration will include a tri-tip barbecue, food and craft vendors, entertainment, car show, pool tours and other family activities. RSVP or purchase lunch tickets at soledadrec.org.

GONZALES — Gonzales Police Department will celebrate National Coffee Day by hosting Coffee with a Cop event on Saturday, Oct. 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. The community is invited to attend and get to know local officers while enjoying a free coffee tasting at the Gonzales Starbucks, 851 Fifth St., Ste. E.
