Monterey County Works schedules job fairs
MONTEREY COUNTY — Monterey County Works will host three job fairs and hiring events in September, connecting job seekers with local employers and employment opportunities throughout the region.
The events include a multiple-employer job fair from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sept. 2 at the Salinas Career Center, 344 Salinas St., in Salinas; a health care industry recruitment event from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 16 at the same location; and a multiple-employer job fair from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sept. 30 at the Monterey County Free Libraries Castroville Branch, Andy Ausonio Library, 11160 Speegle St.
“We’ve decided to take the show on the road this fiscal year,” said Christopher Donnelly, executive director of Monterey County Works. “We’ll be offering eight job fairs at various venues across Monterey County for the convenience of our local jobseekers and employers.”
Job seekers do not need to register for the events. They are encouraged to bring multiple copies of their résumés, dress professionally and be prepared to meet with employers who are hiring. For more information, visit MontereyCountyWorks.com.
Gallery features award-winning oil painter in September
SALINAS — Salinas Valley Art Gallery will feature award-winning oil painter Ruth Carroll as its featured artist for September, with her exhibition on display through Sept. 25.
Carroll, a longtime landscape artist, draws inspiration from the California Central Coast, where she grew up. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in drawing from California College of the Arts in Oakland and has exhibited her plein air and studio works across the United States and abroad.
Carroll will meet visitors during the gallery’s First Friday event from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 4. The event will provide an opportunity to view her work and meet the artist.
Salinas Valley Art Gallery is located at 218 Main St. in Old Town Salinas. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Greenfield hosts resilience meeting for future Rec Center
GREENFIELD — City of Greenfield will host a community meeting on Thursday, Sept. 3, to discuss resilience features planned for the future Recreation Center at 12th Street and Apple Avenue.
The meeting will focus on how the center could support the community during emergency events. A presentation will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session from 6:30 to 7 p.m.
The meeting will be held at the Greenfield Community Center, 1351 Oak Ave. in Patriot Park. Refreshments and snacks will be provided.
Eli Young Band headlines Monterey County Fair
MONTEREY — Monterey County Fair returns Sept. 3-7 with five days of live entertainment, including concerts, rodeo action, motorcycle racing and community performances.
The fair opens Thursday, Sept. 3, with multi-Platinum country group Eli Young Band performing at 7:30 p.m. on the Payton Stage. The Texas-based band is known for hits including “Crazy Girl,” “Even If It Breaks Your Heart,” “Drunk Last Night” and “Love Ain’t.” The concert is included with fair admission.
The Payton Stage lineup continues Friday with Devotional: The Depeche Mode Experience, Saturday with Journey Revisited, Sunday with Amigo Bronco: The Tribute and Monday with Twist on Taylor. All performances begin at 7:30 p.m. and are included with fair admission. Other entertainment includes country-rock band Left of Centre at the Buckaroos and Brews Saloon Thursday through Sunday, along with local bands, singers, dancers, youth groups and community performers.
The Pattee Arena will host a Short Track Motorcycle Race at 4 p.m. on Sept. 4, the Flying U Rodeo at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 5 and Fiesta del Charro performances at 3 and 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 6. Arena events require separate tickets.
The fair also offers special admission days. Seniors 62 and older will receive free admission Sept. 3; military members, veterans and their dependents will be admitted free Sept. 4; and children 12 and younger will be admitted free Sept. 7.
