JO MORA GATHERING
MONTEREY — The Jo Mora Gathering will take place Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 5-6, hosted at Monterey History and Art’s Stanton Center and other nearby locations. This event honors Jo Mora (1876-1947), a celebrated artist of Monterey County known for his intricate Cartes, sculptures and a diverse array of published works for both children and adults. The weekend will kick off with a symposium on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Presenters will include experts such as Peter Hiller discussing “Six Jo Mora Sculpting Stories” and Mark McDonald on “Mora’s Carmel Woods Serra Art Installation.” Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy lunch on their own and a special reception for the Jo Mora: Cartographer exhibit from 3:30 to 5 p.m., featuring wine, cheese and exclusive archival items. On Sunday, visitors can explore Jo Mora displays at Casa Serrano from 1 to 4 p.m., including periodic presentations on the collection’s origins. A special walkabout led by Terry Trotter will take place from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., divided into two groups. Tickets are available online only at montereyhistory.org.
BRIDGE PROJECT
KING CITY — A bridge improvement project continues Monday, Oct. 7, which will result in overnight closure of southbound Highway 101 at Jolon Road. Travelers will encounter this full closure on Monday through Thursday nights between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. through Oct. 10 to allow Caltrans to resurface the southbound Jolon Road undercrossing. Southbound 101 travelers will be routed to the Jolon Road off-ramp and back onto the Jolon Road on-ramp. CHP, flaggers and directional signs will be in place to alert the traveling public. This work is part of a bridge improvement project at 19 bridge locations in Monterey and San Luis Obispo counties. Work includes bridge assessments, deck repairs/resurfacing and installing/replacing joint seals. This project is expected to be complete in spring 2025.
AG JOBS FORUM
SEASIDE — Cal State Monterey Bay, the Grower-Shipper Foundation and Western Growers invite ag industry professionals and job seekers to the free “Ag Jobs: Bringing A Greater Vision” forum and job fair on Monday, Oct. 7, beginning at 11:30 a.m. at CSUMB’s Otter Student Union. After opening remarks by CSUMB President Vanya Quiñones and Provost Andrew Lawson, a Fireside Chat features guest speakers Christine Moseley, founder and CEO of Full Harvest, and Brandi DeCarli, founding partner and CEO of Farm From A Box. Dennis Donohue, director of Western Growers Center for Innovation and Technology, hosts the conversation on “Smarter Agriculture: Feeding More-Impacting Less.” Two panel discussions follow, with ag industry leaders discussing “Sustainability in Ag” and “Climate in Agriculture.” Attendees are encouraged to come early and enjoy a free lunch sponsored by Western Growers. KING CITY — The City of King invites the community to its Ciclovia event on Sunday, Oct. 13, from 12 to 4 p.m., closing Broadway Street to vehicle traffic for walkers, cyclists and runners. This initiative supports the city’s goals to become a Blue Zones Project community and features activities, entertainment, bounce houses and healthy food options.
