KING CITY — King City Recreation Department is hosting its second annual Halloween House Decorating Contest. Community members can decorate their business or residence for the holiday and register to win prizes, which will be awarded based on creativity, originality, design and layout. The deadline to register for free is Friday, Oct. 22, at kingcityrecreation.com or call 831-385-6748. Judging will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 26, from 7 to 9 p.m.


GONZALES — Gonzales Police Department will be accepting all unused or expired prescription drugs during National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 23. In partnership with Sun Street Centers, prescription drugs can be dropped off at the police station, 109 Fourth St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with no questions asked. No illegal substances or needles will be accepted.


JOLON — A presentation of historic postcards of South Monterey County will be featured at the annual fall meeting and dinner of the San Antonio Valley Historical Association (SAVHA) set for Saturday, Nov. 6, at the historic Hacienda at Fort Hunter Liggett. The event, which is open to the public, will feature a presentation by Hanford Historian Michael J. Semas, who is a collector of old postcards and photos. MONTEREY COUNTY — Monterey County will host two virtual Town Hall meetings about Covid-19 vaccinations for students this month so that families can get accurate information about these issues. There will be two virtual meetings, one in Spanish and one in English. Both meetings will feature a panel of experts to respond to community questions and concerns. The first meeting (Spanish) is Thursday, Oct. 21, from 6 to 7 p.m. via Zoom, and the second meeting (English) is Thursday, Oct. 28, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. via Zoom. Participants can ask questions through the webinar or social media.
