COLLECTION DRIVE
KING CITY — The Community Food Pantry of King City is reminding residents that the Goodwill collection drive will be Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 19-20, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Broadway parking lot at King City High School. The Food Pantry is asking South Monterey County residents to bring new or gently used, still useable items — such as clothing, shoes, books, blankets, sheets, linens, curtains, dishes, kitchenware, bikes, music CDs, DVDs, small kitchen appliances and all other general household items — to the Goodwill donation trailer. No furniture, mattresses, beds, large appliances, exercise equipment, baby strollers or car seats will be accepted at the trailer. For every trailer filled, Goodwill will donate $1,000 to the Food Pantry to support its food distribution program for King City residents in need. For more information regarding the event, call Peggy at 831-320-8678.
MOBILE BANK
SALINAS — In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Prósperos, a new mobile banking platform, officially opened its doors on Oct. 10 at 622 E. Alisal St. #2. Launched by co-founders Vinay Pai and Salvador “Chava” Chavez, Prósperos aims to provide fee-free financial services to immigrants, offering check-cashing and money transfer services without the high fees typically associated with these transactions. By utilizing the Prósperos card, users can send money to Mexico and other eligible countries instantly and without charge. Chavez, who grew up witnessing his father’s struggles to access financial services, emphasized the importance of financial education and support for the traditionally unbanked community. The platform also offers resources to empower users in managing their finances effectively.
