ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

GONZALES — A cultural celebration in honor of the 75th anniversary of Gonzales will take place Saturday, Oct. 15, from 4 to 8 p.m. along Fourth Street. There will be lots of fun for families, including food, games and music.


WITCH RIDE

GREENFIELD — The community is invited to an evening of whimsical Halloween fun as witches “fly” down El Camino Real in Greenfield for the second annual Witch Ride on Saturday, Oct. 15. Check-in begins at 5 p.m. at the Greenfield Civic Center, 599 El Camino Real, with the parade starting promptly at 5:45 p.m. Participants age 18 and older must dress in their “witchiest” costume and ride a bike to participate in the parade. Tickets must be purchased in advance on Eventbrite at bit.ly/3fRvwRu.


DOG CARNIVAL

SALINAS — South County Animal Rescue (SCAR) is planning a fun event for families and their dogs on Sunday, Oct. 16, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Entrance is free for the Howl’oween Carnival, hosted by Rustique Wines at 1010 River Road in Salinas. There will be dog carnival games and costume contests, a food truck and wine tasting. All dogs must be on leash.


BONUS BRIEF: ART GALLERY

SALINAS — A special exhibition to honor the memory of Claes Oldenburg will be presented by Hartnell College Gallery through Oct. 20. Oldenburg, an internationally renowned Pop Art sculptor who recently died at the age of 93, had a special bond with Salinas, the site of one of his major sculptures, “Hat in Three Stages of Landing.” The gallery is located in the Visual Arts Building (Building J) on the main Hartnell Campus, located in the 500 block of West Alisal Street in Salinas. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday, 9 to 11 a.m. and 3 to 5:30 pm.
