THANKSGIVING STORYTIME

SPCA ADOPTIONS

SALINAS — Skip the crowded malls and give yourself the gift of unconditional love during the SPCA Monterey County’s Black Friday Adoption Event Nov. 24-26. During the event, adopters can “Pick Their Price” on all adoptable pets in the shelter. SPCA Monterey County is located at 1002 Monterey-Salinas Highway, across from WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Adoption hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. SPCA adoptions include the pet’s spay or neuter surgery, permanent microchip identification, vaccinations, SPCA ID tag, a health evaluation and more. PJ DONATIONS

KING CITY — Mee Memorial Healthcare System is helping children with cancer again this holiday season through the fourth annual Holiday PJ Patrol. The community can participate by donating boys’ and girls’ pajamas for ages 1 to teen/adult sizes (priced from $5 to $30) by Dec. 1. A collection barrel is located in the lobby at Mee Memorial Hospital in King City. Donations will go to the Partnership for Children, which provides holiday gifts for children with life-threatening conditions living in Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito counties. BONUS BRIEF: SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY

SALINAS — Alliance on Aging’s benefit shop in Salinas, Spirals by the Arch, will celebrate Small Business Saturday on Nov. 25 with some specials for shoppers. Sammich’d gourmet sandwich food truck will be doing a pop-up with small bites from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with food for purchase, and there will be special savings and raffle drawings on the hour beginning at 12 p.m. In addition, the nonprofit Peace of Mind Dog Rescue (POMDR) will have adoptable dogs on-site from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. POMDR’s mission is to be a resource and advocate for senior dogs and senior people on California’s Central Coast. They focus on helping senior dogs and people from Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito counties. Spirals by the Arch is located at 247-A Main St. in Salinas. For information, call 831-646-5052. All proceeds from the shop will benefit Alliance on Aging’s many programs. Small Business Saturday is a day to celebrate and support small businesses and all they do for their communities.
