ANIMAL CAMP
MONTEREY COUNTY — SPCA Monterey County has announced that registration is now open for its annual Summer Animal Camp. The program, held at the organization’s renovated Claire Jacobson Learning Center on the SPCA campus, offers children the opportunity to engage with animals through a variety of educational activities. The camp features lessons on animal safety and handling, outdoor walks around the grounds and hands-on activities, such as making toys and treats for pets. Participants will also have the chance to meet rescued wildlife, visit with rescued horses and barn animals, and participate in games and crafts related to animals. SUMMER INTERNS
MONTEREY COUNTY — Monterey County Elections Department is now accepting applications for the 2025 Leadership in Civic Engagement High School Summer Internship. This one-week program, running June 23-27, from 1 to 3 p.m. daily, offers incoming high school juniors and seniors in Monterey County a hands-on introduction to civic leadership and election processes. Interns will work with Elections Department staff to learn about local elections, build leadership skills and design a project promoting youth civic participation. Participants will earn community hours, a letter of recommendation and a Certificate of Participation, potentially qualifying for the State Seal of Civic Engagement. STADIUM RIBBON CUTTING
GONZALES — On Friday, May 16, there will be an official ribbon cutting at the newly renovated Dick Force Stadium at Gonzales High School. The event will begin at 3:45 p.m. and all Gonzales High alumni and local community members are invited to attend the ceremony. The stadium was funded by Measure K, which was approved by Gonzales voters in November 2020. After the ribbon cutting, a track meet for any Spartans alumni will take place on the track. SALINAS — Monterey County Works is hosting two Youth and Young Adult job fairs in May to connect jobseekers with local employers. The first event will take place on Wednesday, May 14, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Salinas Career Center, located at 344 Salinas St. The second will be held on Saturday, May 17, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Monterey Adult School, 1295 LaSalle Ave. in Seaside, in Multi-Purpose Room 13. Although these events are primarily aimed at young people ages 16 to 24, all individuals are welcome to attend. Following a successful event in South Monterey County last month, organizers plan to facilitate connections between employers and jobseekers throughout the summer. Jobseekers needing assistance with registration are encouraged to contact the Monterey County Works Career Center at 831-796-3335.
