FLEA MARKET CANCELED
KING CITY — Oscar Avalos from King City Rotary announced May 2 that the Rotary Flea Market planned for May 23 had to be canceled due to Covid-19 restrictions. While the weekly flea market held at the same site at Salinas Valley Fairgrounds has an ongoing permit, the Rotary does not, and will not be able to host the event. Avalos said the regular weekly flea market will take place the same day instead, and the Rotary will have a table at that flea market. He invited the community to show support and visit the table. The Rotary is currently working on removing all signage advertising its flea market.
SOLEDAD — As part of a phased reopening, Pinnacles National Park resumed collecting entrance fees on May 1. Visitors can also use valid Interagency Passes for park entry. The list of entrance fees are as follows: Private vehicle $30, Individual (entry by foot or bicycle) $15, Motorcycle $25, Annual Pinnacles Park Pass $55. Visitors are strongly encouraged to pay by credit card or to pay online at recreation.gov prior to their visit. To reduce the risk of disease transmission, the use of cash at entrance booths is discouraged. With public health in mind, the visitor centers on both sides of the park and the Balconies and Bear Gulch caves remain closed at this time.
CENTRAL COAST — Caltrans District 5 employees and the California Transportation Foundation are offering two $750 scholarships to high school seniors within the five-county district (Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito counties). The scholarship program is designed for students who plan to attend college in California, pursue a career in transportation and live on the central coast. Applications must be submitted by May 14. The 2021 scholarships will be awarded this summer to high school seniors from the central coast. For a link to the scholarship application, visit the Caltrans website.
