SPANISH WORKSHOP
MONTEREY COUNTY — Hospice Giving Foundation announced the launch of its first virtual workshop in Spanish, which will be presented via Zoom on Thursday, March 4, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. The foundation hired Erandi García as a program specialist in December, with the aim of expanding public awareness and knowledge of end-of-life services within the Latino community. SENIOR MEALS
MONTEREY COUNTY — Diana Jimenez, deputy director of Aging and Adult Services for Monterey County, announced the county’s Great Plates Delivered program has been extended through March 8. She clarified the program is extended monthly by the state, which is why longer-reaching announcements cannot be made. The program helps senior citizens stay safe by providing three meals per day from area restaurants. Since its start in June last year, the program has provided more than 156,000 meals to seniors, with an average of 300 seniors fed per month. CAREGIVER VACCINES
CALIFORNIA — Caregivers registered in the VA Caregiver Support program are also now eligible to receive the Covid-19 vaccine. Caregivers can receive the vaccine when their veteran becomes eligible (currently 55-plus years old and enrolled in VA) at the time of their appointment. VA Palo Alto Health Care System is also offering the vaccine to veterans who identify as essential workers, as defined by the CDC: healthcare employees, first responders (firefighters and police officers), corrections workers, food and agriculture, U.S. Postal Service workers, manufacturing, grocery store workers, public transit workers and education (including child care).
