FREE LUNCH

MONTEREY COUNTY — Monterey County Free Libraries will be offering grab-and-go lunch at most branch locations starting the week of June 15 through July 28. There is no need to sign up or show identification. Lunch will be served on a first-come, first-served basis. The library offers these healthy meals in partnership with local school districts through the USDA Summer Food Service Program.


FAIR HOUSING

SOLEDAD — City of Soledad is sponsoring a Fair Housing Training led by ECHO Housing for local residents on Thursday, June 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. The virtual training will cover a diversity of topics, including an overview of the federal and state fair housing laws, new fair housing protections under the law, occupancy guidelines, ECHO Housing services for renter/tenants and housing providers, and an opportunity to ask any fair housing questions. RECYCLING EVENT

KING CITY — Waste Management will be hosting a community recycling event on Saturday, June 25, from 8 to 10:30 a.m. at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds, 625 Division St., in King City. Items that can be discarded include: mattresses, appliances (no freon), e-waste, tires (limit two per vehicle; no rims or commercial tires accepted), yard waste and clean wood, metal and furniture. Salinas Valley Recycles’ Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) crew will also be there to collect any HHW, such as household and auto batteries, oil, paint, sharps, fluorescent bulbs, cleaners and antifreeze. King City in Bloom will also have a litter pick-up in tandem with this event, and volunteers will meet at the Fairgrounds at 8:30 a.m.


BONUS BRIEF: DAY CAMPS

SALINAS — Central Coast YMCA will host summer day camps at seven different locations in Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito counties, with most running through Aug. 12. In addition to summer camps, the Y also offers such summer events and activities as: summer sports leagues, swim lessons, Parent’s Night Out, Kids Zone, Flick and Float, Family Fun Night, Splashin’ Bash Pool Party, birthday parties and rock climbing wall.
