SALINAS — A rally of those wanting to advocate for the return of high school sports in the Salinas Valley area is planned for Jan. 29 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Star Market on South Main Street in Salinas. Those in attendance are encouraged to wear their school colors and sports apparel, with signs encouraged and everyone asked to bring a mask and observe social distancing.

CENTRAL COAST — Cal Fire lifted the burn permit suspension in Monterey and San Benito counties on Jan. 23 due to cooler temperatures and significant rainfall forecasted in the area. Those with current and valid agricultural and residential burn permits can now resume burning on permissible burn days; however, agricultural burns must be inspected by Cal Fire. Burn permits are required for burning, and residents wishing to burn must verify it is a permissive burn day prior to burning by checking or calling 800-225-2876. For more information on burning, visit Cal Fire’s website
