CHOWDER DINNER

KING CITY — Monterey County Agricultural and Rural Life Museum will present the 27th Annual Drury Tankersley Clam Chowder Dinner on Friday, Jan. 28. This year’s dinner will be takeout only, with drive-thru from 2 to 6:30 p.m. at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds in King City. Tickets for $15 each are available for purchase at the King City Chamber of Commerce, LA Hearne, Lockwood Store, Pine Canyon Store or from MCARLM board members.


VOLUNTEER ENUMERATORS

KING CITY — Those who are concerned about homelessness and want to help can start by volunteering to participate in the 2022 Unsheltered Point In Time Count, which will take place in King City on Friday, Jan. 28, from 6 to 10 a.m. Volunteer enumerators are needed to help with the census count. The data is then used to pursue financial assistance for efforts to address homelessness. Contact King City Hall at 831-385-3281 for more information.


COMPOSTING WORKSHOPS

SALINAS — Salinas Valley Recycles will be hosting free in-person composting workshops on Saturdays, Jan. 29, Feb. 26 and March 26. The bilingual workshops take place at Jardin El Sol, 139 Sun St., in Salinas from 10 to 11 a.m. Attendees will learn how to turn kitchen scraps and yard trimmings into a nutrient-rich soil amendment, and will also receive a free composting bin. Register online at svswa.org and click on “Free Compost Workshops” under the “Events” tab.

CALIFORNIA — California students in kindergarten through 12th grade are invited to submit artwork or poetry with a California coastal or marine theme to the Coastal Art and Poetry Contest.
