CITIZEN PLAN

MONTEREY COUNTY — A comment period is open for residents to give input on the County of Monterey’s Citizen Participation Plan, which sets guidelines for public participation in local programs funded by Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This funding is usually in the form of Community Development Block Grants, which serve low- and moderate-income areas. Public noticing is important to make residents aware of projects and presentations. Community Development Block Grant information and presentations are usually given before the Monterey County Board of Supervisors and are publicly noticed. Proposed changes to the current plan will change or expand outreach efforts, such as adding social media as part of the noticing process, updating online information and changing noticing timeframe to match HUD requirements. Review the Citizen Participation Plan document at tinyurl.com/57usftn9. Comments or questions can be directed to Dawn Yonemitsu, management analyst, at [email protected] or 831-755-5387. A public hearing to finalize changes is set for Tuesday, Aug. 22 at 1 p.m.

DANCE GROUPS

GREENFIELD — Cultural dance groups are wanted for the Greenfield Harvest Festival 2023 on Sunday, Oct. 15. The annual event takes place on El Camino Real, from Oak to Walnut avenues, in Greenfield, featuring arts and crafts, food vendors, live music and more. For more details, call 831-277-0514 or email [email protected].

BONUS BRIEF: ELECTION OUTREACH

MONTEREY COUNTY — Monterey County Elections is accepting new outreach volunteers to get Monterey County Vote Ready for the March 5, 2024, Presidential Primary Election. With one of the most complex elections on the horizon, Monterey County Elections is expanding the pool of volunteers as part of the “Take Action, Vote” campaign. The Department is seeking applications from members of the community who are interested in joining a nonpartisan election outreach volunteer team to work with other community members who are passionate about democracy. The outreach team will table community events and provide nonpartisan information to voters related to important election dates, voter registration, the presidential primary, and how to be vote ready before ballots are mailed out. For more information, call 831-796-1499 or email [email protected].
