RECYCLING EVENT

KING CITY — A King City Community Recycling Event will take place Saturday, April 23, from 8 to 10:30 a.m. at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds, 625 Division St. Accepted items include mattresses, appliances, yard waste, electronics, metals, furniture and tires. No commercial dumping nor trash will be accepted.


CHILDREN’S DAY

GONZALES — Grupos Unidos de Gonzales will be hosting its annual Dia del Niño celebration on Sunday, April 24. The free family event will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. at Gonzales Central Park on Fifth Street. For more information, contact Roberta Camacho at 831-262-6135.


POETRY CONTEST

MONTEREY COUNTY — The Heinrich Team, a Monterey Peninsula real estate firm, is calling all local Monterey County poets for the team’s 2022 Poetry Contest for school-age youth, which is now open for submissions. Youth can enter by submitting a copy of their original poem and contact information — name, email, phone and street address — to me***@th*******.net . Deadline for submissions is Monday, April 25, and winners will be notified at the end of the month.


BONUS BRIEF: VOLUNTEER CLEANUP

KING CITY — King City in Bloom will host a cleanup event on Saturday, April 23, from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Volunteers will meet at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds, 625 Division St., to pick up gloves and bags. Free coffee and donuts will be available.
