SALINAS VALLEY — Hartnell College is inviting Salinas Valley high school seniors to sign up for the Panther Prep Pledge program through April 16 and complete priority registration for Fall 2021 classes. By pledging online to attend Hartnell this fall, students will receive priority registration and an individual online appointment with an academic counselor so they are ready to register for classes on April 30. Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, in 2020 the in-person Panther Prep Day was adapted to an online pledge, and more than 1,400 students participated last year. Visit for more information.

MONTEREY COUNTY — Transportation Agency for Monterey County Board of Directors approved staff recommendations to prioritize the US 101 South of Salinas project and the State Route 68 Scenic Corridor project for Federal Community Project funding. Prioritizing the regional Measure X projects would make them eligible for two versions of this new federal funding source. Up to $2 million from a 2022 congressional appropriation for the Highway 101 project will be used for development and environmental review. A potential new infrastructure authorization could direct up to $20 million to construct the State Route 68 project.
