KING CITY — San Lorenzo Park RV Campground in King City, which served as an Alternate Housing Site supporting Covid-19 recovery in Monterey County for more than two years, reopened to the public on Nov. 1.

“This area played an important role for the County and residents during the pandemic, helping hundreds of residents safely recover and reduce the spread of the virus in our community,” according to a county news release.

The park was closed for public use and RV and other camping in April 2020. The day-use portion of the park was reopened on July 1, 2021.

The Alternate Housing program, which sectioned off the entire RV camping section of the park, ended earlier this year and the trailers that had been used for the housing program were removed in August.

“This camping area is very popular with travelers and has undergone repairs and renovations in preparation for reopening,” the release said.

The shower building has been updated and all picnic tables have been repaired and painted.

Additional work that has been done includes: replacement of select charcoal barbecues; replanting and clean-up of putting green; landscaping around campground restroom; and rebuilding of horseshoe pits and other amenities.
