KING CITY — King City Rotary Club has received a permit to close South San Lorenzo and South Vanderhurst at Division Street on Saturday to ensure the safety of participants of the organization’s first-ever Rabbit Run 5K.
The April 16 closure will limit vehicle access to City Park, the King City Golf Course and the tennis courts from 5 to 11 a.m. Residents of the area will be allowed access to their homes, and 4-H and FFA members also will be provided entrance to the Stampede Grounds to care for their livestock.
Organizers ask that those accessing the closed streets be mindful of the participants and be prepared to yield for runners and walkers. Other areas that should expect increased pedestrian traffic include Division Street, between South San Lorenzo and South Second Street, as well as Villa Drive to South Vanderhurst.
“We understand that our event may be an inconvenience to residents and those with livestock at the Stampede Grounds,” said TJ Plew-Hearne, race director and event committee member. “It is our intention to be respectful of our community while providing a safe route for our participants.”
Community members are invited to participate in the 5K run and walk. Registration is available online at webscorer.com/RabbitRun2022 and entry forms are at the King City Chamber of Commerce. Race day registration will also be available on the day of the event beginning at 8 a.m.
Strollers and dogs on leash, with a registered participant, are welcome on the course, Plew-Hearne said.
Proceeds from the Rabbit Run 2022 will be donated to both the King City Rotary Foundation for high school scholarships and to King City in Bloom for city beautification projects.
Since 2010, the King City Rotary Foundation has distributed more than $122,000 in scholarships to over 30 King City High School graduates. King City in Bloom has been instrumental in several beautification improvements of public spaces and private businesses, including the creation of three downtown murals.
“The Rotary Club of King City is grateful for the support of local businesses that have sponsored or donated to ensure the success of the event,” Plew-Hearne said.
