GREENFIELD — Detectives from the South County Major Crimes Unit are investigating a homicide that occurred New Year’s Eve in Greenfield.

According to a news release, Greenfield police officers responded to a report that a person had been shot in the 1100 block of Heidi Drive on Dec. 31 at about 6:50 p.m. There, officers found a male victim with a gunshot wound sitting in a vehicle parked at a residence.

Police said firefighters and paramedics rendered first aid, but the victim “succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

The investigation is ongoing, and no other details have been released.
