Overnight highway closures set for Sunday and Monday in King City

UPDATE (2 p.m., June 5): According to the City of King, Caltrans has rescheduled the highway construction for the evenings of June 6 and 7, with the detours mentioned below still in place.

UPDATE (6:45 p.m., June 3): Caltrans has canceled the overnight closures due to contractor supply issues. An update will be provided detailing the rescheduling of this closure once confirmed, officials said.

KING CITY — A full overnight closure of southbound Highway 101 in King City is scheduled for Sunday, June 5, and Monday, June 6.

The closure, between Broadway and First streets, will take place from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. each day. A detour will be available.

During closure hours, travelers heading southbound on the highway will be directed to exit at Broadway Street and turn right on First Street before rejoining southbound traffic at the First Street onramp.

The southbound onramps at Broadway and Canal streets will also be closed during the duration of the work.

California Highway Patrol will be on hand to assist in directing traffic, along with message and directional signs.

Travelers can expect delays of up to 10 minutes.

“These closures are necessary for contracted crews to perform concrete paving work,” said Caltrans in a news release Friday.

The contractor for this $78 million construction project is OHL, USA of Irvine. The project is expected to be completed at the end of September 2022.
