Wendy Johnsen went to be with the Lord May 31, 2019 surrounded by loved ones.
She was born January 10, 1953 to Edward and Patricia Johnsen in King City, where she spent her childhood and many years of adulthood. She graduated from high school in the top of her class in 1971 and proceeded to Cal Poly University in San Luis Obispo where she earned a degree in agriculture. She found employment with Monterey County as a produce inspector, which she continued until her health prevented it in the early 2000s.
She married in 1977 and had 3 children: Morris, Whitney and Kenneth (KJ).
In 1989 Wendy was diagnosed with a brain tumor and underwent treatment that included two surgeries. She then spent many years volunteering at both the Salinas and King City hospitals in the cancer wings.
Wendy’s love of the Lord was very apparent. She became a resident of Mee Memorial Hospital’s Skilled Nursing Unit in September 2003 after a stroke prevented her from living on her own. It was during this time that her Grace Church family made sure she attended church almost weekly. Through all her trials and tribulations Wendy kept a stunningly positive outlook.
Wendy is preceded in death by her father Ed, mother Pat,brother David and son Morris. She is survived by her daughter Whitney (her husband Matt) Wendell of Kingman, Arizona; son KJ ( and his wife Denee) Wycuff of Brawley, CA; sister Karen ( and her husband Doug) Farrar of Stanton, Virginia and brother Eric (and his wife Mona) Johansen of Lockwood, CA.
She also was a proud grandmother of 8 grandchildren: Vance, Seamus, Nataleigh, Bo, Kaelyn, Lane, Koty, and Emmett.
Celebration of Life was held June 4th at Grace Lutheran in King City with Pastor Sandi Olson Decker presiding. Burial was in the King City Cemetery.
