Dale Phillips, age 84, passed away October 29, 2018, after battling many health issues.
Dale was born in King City, California, on September 23, 1934, and spent his childhood between California and Arkansas. He left school to work at age 16, and was a known farmer in the Salinas Valley for many years. He married Gloria Buzzini in March of 1959, and settled in Greenfield. He retired in the early 2000’s.
Dale was active in several local organizations, including Greenfield Lions Club, of which he was a past president, and the Greenfield Rod and Gun Club. He was an avid hunter, which included trips out of state with his brothers and friends; he also enjoyed competitive target shooting and fishing.
Dale was quite the sports fan, following the Giants, 49ers and Sharks, even having season tickets for ice hockey for many years. In spare time, Dale enjoyed drawing, photography, snow skiing, and attending his grandchildren’s various activities. One of his own favorite activities was studying religion and the Bible, leading to many lively discussions/debates. He was often a staple feature at various chicken barbecues in South County.
Dale was preceded in death by 3 brothers. He is survived by his wife Gloria; son Mark, married to Christine; and daughter Vivian, married to Mike Philipp. His grandchildren are Jessica Bignardi (married to Kevin Bignardi), Katie Hestand (married to Michael Hestand), Pierce Philipp, and Laurel Philipp, with great grandchildren Rita and Dale Bignardi. He was very loved and will be greatly missed.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Salinas Valley Fair Heritage Foundation.A Visitation and Funeral Services was held Friday and Saturday, November 2nd and 3rd, 2018 at the Eddington Funeral Services Chapel.
