KING CITY — Behind the pitching of Clay Barbree and Brian Lopez the King City Mustang baseball team defeated the visiting Everett Alvarez Eagles by a 6-4 score on April 3.

Barbree earned the pitching victory with five innings of work and Lopez finished the game.

Lopez had two hits and two runs batted in and Barbree has two hits of his own. Cedric Perez and Adam Cortez had two hits apiece and Julian Lopez hit a single and an RBI.

Last Thursday in Morgan Hill the host Live Oak Acorns downed the Mustangs 11-6. King City used five young pitchers in the loss, including two freshman hurlers.

“Going in we wanted some of our younger arms to get in some work on the mound,” said King City head coach Lorenzo Espino. “It was important for us to give our starting rotation a little rest so they can stay fresh for league and we also want our young guys have game experience so they can help us this season and next season.”

Pitching for the Mustangs were: Armando Pina, Jose Arreola, Luis Luna, Adam Cortez, and Jonathan Bautista. Clay Barbree hit a triple in the game to knock in two baserunners and Julio Camacho hit a double with two RBI’s. Giovanni Santoyo had a basehit and an RBI.

King City is 9-3-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the Mission Trail Athletic League. The Mustangs played Stevenson at home on Monday and played at the Pirates at Pebble Beach yesterday. Tomorrow King City will host the Alisal Trojans in a non-league game.
