MONTEREY COUNTY — Monterey County Pops! has announced an upcoming series of music programs designed to enrich the lives of South Monterey County residents through educational residencies and special performances.
Programs will feature high school residencies, a “Peter and the Wolf” program for elementary schools, and a “Music for Seniors” initiative. The series kicks off with a residency at King City High School on Wednesday, Nov. 6, and will include a Veterans Day Concert at the Robert Stanton Theater.
“Monterey County Pops! is thrilled to share that we are conducting a series of programs for high school residencies, ‘Peter and the Wolf’ for elementary schools, and ‘Music for Seniors’ in South Monterey County,” the orchestra shared. “Our commitment to enhancing access to high-quality musical experiences is at the heart of what we do.”
The first high school residency at King City High will involve interactive workshops and performances, inspiring students to explore music and the arts. Additional residencies are planned for Gonzales High School on Nov. 22 and Soledad High School on Dec. 12. Through these programs, Monterey County Pops! hopes to ignite a passion for music in young learners.
For younger audiences, Monterey County Pops! will present “Peter and the Wolf” for elementary schools in Gonzales and Soledad, introducing children to classical music through the enchanting story and music of Sergei Prokofiev’s beloved orchestral piece. This educational performance “aims to spark a lifelong love of music” among Monterey County’s youngest residents, according to the orchestra.
The schedule for Nov. 6 also includes the “Music for Seniors” program, bringing live music to residents at Eden Valley Care Center in Soledad and Mee Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility in King City. Through these intimate concerts, Monterey County Pops! will share the joy of live music with seniors who may not easily access such experiences.
In collaboration with King City High School, Monterey County Pops! will also present a free Veterans Day Concert at the Robert Stanton Theater, open to the public and honoring veterans with a powerful performance. The concert, at 720 Broadway St. in King City, will pay tribute to those who have served in the armed forces.
“Through a diverse array of concerts and educational programs, we aim to uplift and inspire residents of all ages, creating opportunities for engagement and connection,” stated the orchestra. “We believe that music is a powerful tool for community building, and we can’t wait to see you there.”
