SALINAS VALLEY — Young ladies who are passionate about the western lifestyle and promoting the rodeo industry can compete for the title of Miss California Rodeo Salinas 2023 this July.

Entries for the 2023 contest close May 1, and the winner will become an ambassador for the largest professional rodeo in California and enjoy traveling to parades, community celebrations and events during her reign.

The competition is open to young women between 18 and 24 years of age who are representing either a recognized horsemen’s organization or another recognized non-commercial community organization.

The contest consists of horsemanship, personality and appearance, and scholarship categories; it starts Thursday, July 6, and Miss California Rodeo Salinas 2022 Mayson Bothwell of King City and Rodeo President Fred Hooker will present the winner with her title on Saturday, July 8.

The winner will receive a $3,000 academic scholarship, a gold and silver trophy belt buckle and the use of a two-horse trailer for one year along with many other gifts and the privilege of wearing the Miss California Rodeo Salinas gold and silver tiara.

“The time spent in the saddle as Miss California Rodeo Salinas 2022 has been extremely memorable,” said Bothwell about her experience so far. “I’m so excited to leave with friends, memories and relationships that I will cherish for the rest of my life. My favorite part as advocate for the sport of rodeo has been the community outreach. I have traveled up and down the state of California educating people, sharing knowledge about the California Rodeo Salinas, and meeting future cowboys and cowgirls.”

Full contest details and a digital application form can be found here.

The contest is presented by the official hotel partner of the California Rodeo Salinas, the Holiday Inn Express and Suites in Salinas.
