Michael Barrow Fanoe passed away suddenly on August 31, 2017 at the age of 72. Mike was born to Anker “Sonny” and Marjorie “Midge” Fanoe on October 4, 1944, and was a lifelong resident of Gonzales, CA. In 1962, he graduated from Palma High School, where he met the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Margie (Ferrasci). Michael and Margie wed in November 1966, and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year. Shortly after they were married, Michael served two years in the Army, during which time he and Margie lived in Alabama and Germany. After completing his military service, Mike and Margie moved back to Gonzales, where Mike farmed the Fanoe Ranch for more than 40 years.
Mike loved to hunt and fish, and he spent much of his spare time doing so. His fishing and hunting stories highlighted many of his conversations, and they included trips to Mammoth Lakes, White Rock, Arroyo Seco, the Sierra’s, Los Banos, and his most cherished hunting location, the de Dampierre Ranch. Above all else, Mike loved his family. Over the last five years, Mike and Margie were blessed with five beautiful grandchildren, who stole their Papa’s heart and loved him beyond words. He was truly one of a kind, and he will forever live on in their hearts, and in the hearts of all his family and friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Margie Fanoe (Ferrasci); his son, Jason (Kindra) Fanoe of Los Gatos, CA; his daughter, Lisa (Andrew) Frizzell of Salinas, CA; his grandchildren Caitlin Frizzell, Parker Fanoe, Jake Frizzell, Pierce Fanoe, and Prescott Fanoe; his sister Susan (Robert) Grassi of Danville, CA; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, September 29, 2017, at 11:00 am at St. Theodore’s Catholic Church, 116 S. Belden St, Gonzales, CA, 93926 with a Celebration of Life reception to follow.
