SOUTH COUNTY — Greenfield and King City community members are invited to attend a meeting tonight regarding the petition to unify Greenfield High School and Greenfield Union School District.
Monterey County Committee on School District Organization has scheduled a meeting Nov. 1 at Greenfield High School, 225 El Camino Real, in the Student Union at 6:30 p.m. to further discuss the unification petition.
Registered voters of Greenfield filed a petition with the Monterey County Office of Education to reorganize and unify the high school with Greenfield Union School District, which includes Cesar Chavez and Oak Avenue elementary schools, Mary Chapa Academy and Vista Verde Middle School.
Greenfield High is currently part of the South Monterey County Joint Union High School District that also consists of King City High School, Portola-Butler Continuation High School and Pinnacle Academy Charter.
According to the county, nine different criteria must be met and approved by the committee when it receives a petition for unification. All but three of those have been approved for the Greenfield petition.
The committee is expected to take action on one criterion at the Nov. 1 meeting, in addition to providing information about the other two criteria.
