KING CITY — Mee Memorial Healthcare System CEO Rena Salamacha has been included on a national list of 80 influential rural hospital leaders.

Compiled by Becker’s Hospital Review, the list includes “executives who put their heart and soul into ensuring their more remote communities have access to the best healthcare services possible.” Salamacha is the only leader from California listed.

“I’m honored to receive this recognition on behalf of all Mee Memorial employees and physicians,” said Salamacha, who has been CEO of the King City-based health organization since 2019. “It is really all about our commitment to provide the highest quality of care and service to our South County community.”

Becker’s Healthcare is a go-to source for healthcare decision-makers, and is one of the fastest growing media platforms in the industry. The publication believes that rural hospitals are critical to the success of the U.S. healthcare system, and they require leaders “who have developed a model for not only surviving, but thriving.”

“Salamacha is responsible for leading a team of executives and care providers charged with ensuring her facility provides high-quality healthcare services to its local community,” stated the review’s text about Salamacha. “After taking over as CEO in 2019, she went into the Covid-19 pandemic facing a unique challenge. Despite this challenge, she demonstrated her ability to bring various groups together and kept up with round-the-clock healthcare delivery. She also expanded services, campus locations and led her organization-wide revitalization of the system’s business functions.”

Mee Memorial Healthcare System’s service area spans more than 55 miles between Soledad and Bradley in southern Monterey County. Its network includes Mee Memorial Hospital in King City and three comprehensive outpatient clinics; two adjacent to the hospital and the Albert and Donna Oliveira Clinic in Greenfield.
