KING CITY — King City Police are searching for two different drivers who hit and killed a pedestrian last Wednesday night in the 700 block of South First Street and then fled the scene.

Officers found the victim lying on the roadway at about 8:15 p.m. on Jan. 30. The man, who police said is not from this area, died at the scene. His name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

“Upon the officer’s arrival, they determined the subject had been run over by a vehicle and was pronounced deceased,” police said in a news release.

An investigation revealed that the man had been run over twice. He was initially struck by one vehicle and then another vehicle ran over him again. Both vehicles fled the scene after making contact.

Police said his cause of death is pending an autopsy with the Monterey County Coroner’s office.

“No other information is being released at this time,” police said.

Investigators are reaching out to the public for their cooperation in the investigation. Anyone with further information regarding this case is encouraged to call King City Police Officer Scott Baughman at 831-386-5986 or the WeTip line at 1-800-78-CRIME.
